WILMINGTON, Del. – The Delaware Democratic Party announced a slate of endorsements reflective of an establishment clinging to the status quo despite growing calls for new leadership, both within Delaware and in recent primaries across the country.
The Party’s endorsement of incumbent Attorney General Kathy Jennings for a third term mirrors the very institutional blind spots highlighted in recent national reckonings. As reporting on the missing chapters of the DNC 2024 autopsy asked: “Is there a single point of failure for 2024? Perhaps it is a decision of the President to seek re-election instead of passing the torch.”
Civil rights attorney Dwayne Bensing released the following statement after the endorsements were announced:
“We are in a moment that demands leaders who can both fearlessly fight back against the destructive forces of the growing oligarch class and offer a hopeful vision for how the law works for all Delawareans, fairly and equally.
“This campaign has never been about winning approval from establishment Delaware politicians and party insiders. I've had the honor of traveling to communities throughout Delaware and meeting with people from all walks of life, and one thing has become unmistakably clear: There is a deep chasm between what everyday Delawareans consistently say they need for a better future and the status quo the establishment is desperate to preserve.
“Voters across the nation are responding to leaders who offer long-term solutions for confronting corporate greed, pursuing transparency and accountability in government, and building a Department of Justice that serves the people rather than an operative class protecting its own proximity to power. Every single day, I’m talking with Delawareans about how we will build a DOJ that truly protects our rights—so it’s no surprise that party insiders seeking to preserve their influence are doubling down behind an increasingly broken system.
“I’m excited to spend the weeks ahead engaging with Delawareans in every corner of this state, talking about how we can work together to disrupt the status quo, pass the torch, and build a Department of Justice that truly fights for the people.”
Bensing’s insurgent campaign enjoys support from a growing coalition of grassroots leaders and organizations who understand the importance of protecting civil rights and standing up for everyday people, including:
