Civil Rights Attorney Dwayne Bensing Announces Campaign for Delaware Attorney General

REHOBOTH BEACH — Dwayne Bensing announced his candidacy for Attorney General on Sunday at the Delaware Stonewall PAC Spring Fundraiser in Rehoboth Beach. Bensing, 42, launched his campaign to serve all Delawareans by committing to tackle corporate greed, ensure independent government oversight, and protect civil rights.

Bensing, the legal director of the ACLU of Delaware, has dedicated his career to public service: teaching public school, founding the Civil Rights Law Project at Penn Law, taking on Betsy DeVos’ Department of Education as a historic whistleblower, and now, fighting for the civil rights and liberties of all Delawareans.

“From the classroom to the courtroom, I have proven throughout my career that I will always stand up for what is right,” Bensing said.

Bensing said that he is running to be an Attorney General “who doesn’t owe the status quo any favors.” Bensing will face incumbent Attorney General Kathy Jennings in the September 15 Democratic primary.

“We cannot solve the challenges we face today with yesterday’s playbook,” Bensing said.

Attendees of the event showed enthusiasm for Bensing’s candidacy. “I'm proud of Dwayne for running – he's exactly the type of leader we need in this moment, when too often corporate special interests have a more influential voice than most citizens," said Delaware Stonewall PAC board member Tara Sheldon. "I've had the opportunity to work with Dwayne over the last several years as he's led Delaware Stonewall. If there is anyone who can take on the status quo and win, it’s Dwayne Bensing.”
